Hi Ladies,

I am starting my own high end coaching business that will help me to further my vision to see more women leaders step into their divine destiny. For those of you who are unaware I have spent the last eighteen years learning the art of transformation by means of a coaching methodology. My husband and I co-own BusinessCoach.com.

I have decided to start a new coaching company that offers high end coaching programs to women. However, I feel spiritually led to find a coaching business partner who can align behind my vision. I’m really looking for a kindred spirit.

I am looking for someone who not only coaches or who is trained as a coach, but also a woman who is an entrepreneur and coach with a BIG VISION to offer women fabulous and luxurious coaching programs that are fit for a queen.

I am also looking for a woman who is somewhat local to the Sacramento area and who can work side by side with me to develop coaching programs, events and products. This could be someone in the Sacramento, Roseville, Granite Bay, Folsom, El Dorado Hills area or Napa Valley. We will work side by side and be connected at the hip so to speak.

Watch the video above to find out more. Be blessed and brilliant. xo Jenene

Will I Survive Bootcamp?

by Jenene Stafford

Story #1: Our stories have a purpose

Last night I slept with one eye open again, if I slept much at all.

My stomach is full of knots, doing everything possible to keep my heart from pounding right out of my chest so the bed would not shake. I pretended often to be asleep. I lived in shear terror for years of what he would do to me when I should of been dreaming beautiful dreams.

The ten years of physical and mental abuse by my former husband has taken its toll on me and I can’t help but question God as to why He allowed this?

Was it not enough to survive rape, physical and mental abuse, the torture of not being allowed to sleep, being forced to sit in a corner like a bad child all night. If I dozed off to sleep my psycho husband would pinch me hard to wake me up.

The humiliation of sitting in a corner for hours or days, praying he’d allow me to use the restroom. My children would have to come and visit me in the corner in the bedroom which was only one place where he would control me and torture my body, mind and spirit.

I want you to know in this moment I despise through tears telling this tiny glimpse of a story. I don’t want to feel like I’m giving him one ounce of my attention or thoughts after all these years. I don’t want to recall the torture he put me through during these episodes of control, manipulation and attempts to break me, to brainwash me.

And yet . . .

The Lord Jesus speaks so gently to me and says, “Jenene, you’re telling this story for me, for my purpose and it’s ok with me that you’re angry about it. It’s ok if it causes you distress and discomfort, but trust me,  I have a good plan.”

Deep down I know He’s telling me the truth and why should I be surprised. I knew these stories would have to be shared. I’m surprised that I am so childishly reluctant. It must be part of the journey.

I have to take a break just to work through crying like a baby.  I’m begging God not to make me relive or rethink this past life. I know in my heart so many stories are yet to come.

Like Jacob, I know I have wrestled with God and He has given me a limp as a reminder of his graciousness. There is a battle He and I have fought together as I am still learning  tragedy after tragedy and moment by moment to understand His ways.

I fight for the God-inspired purpose. It does not come easy by any stretch of the imagination.

It is in this fight to discover the true meaning of humility, of laying everything at the throne of His grace, this battle to endure the enemy and to run the race victoriously that we become . . . Lady Champions.

I fervently pray and I wonder when will this bootcamp end.

With Much Love, Jenene

Fear Stops Me

by Jenene Stafford

Fear wants to stop our stories.

He is something that ultimately will end in doom, hoping to take humanity with him.

He is ultimately powerless.

But, regardless of how desperate humanity is to be a champion, the darkness wins out far too often.

It shouldn’t be.

People need faith, hope and light.

Real light . . .eternal.

The Bible says,” We are to be that light in a dark place, not hidden under anything.”

I for one want to live brilliantly today.

What voice, what face, what thought stands in the way? Fear has so many faces.

How do I go from fear to freedom?

From fear to boldness?

Am I willing to be that naked, that authentic, that exposed?

Are you?

Will you share your brokenness?

I am so tired.

I’m more tired of being beaten down by fear than anything else.

I’m tired of feeling alone, forever alone in this unusual journey.

Unfolding and revealing my story of the Truth.

Wondering who will stand with me.

I know I can’t fight fear by myself.

It will take THE TRUTH. The Truth we forget too easily. The Truth that sets you and me free.

This Truth, “I did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”

That’s the voice, I want to listen to-I must listen to.

I can’t be afraid of coming into the Light anymore.

How can we be brilliant unless we are living in His Light?

How can I be a brilliant leader if I will not take the first step?

Much Love, Jenene

Looking For Power Part 1

By Jenene Stafford

Hi Ladies,

I don’t think we can learn too much about how to grow as a soldier or warrior of Christ. In fact, as women on a mission, to fulfill our God-given destiny and build the Kingdom of God, there is no getting around this.

We must be constantly present to the reality of what our existence is all about. This is why Jesus said, “Be in the world, but not like the world.” We are set apart. Jesus knew this would be a great challenge, so much so that in his final days before his crucifixion He prayed to the Father in John 17. We focus a lot on the Lord’s Prayer, but this prayer is equally as powerful as it is the the prayer of Jesus to the Father. I suggest you read it and refresh your memory as to where the Lord’s heart was in his final days.

John 17:9-26 says

I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

You probably already know this, but if you want to read the reference to the armor of God in the Bible, you can find it in Ephesians 6:10-18:

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Spirituality vs Christianity

By Jenene Stafford

As I’ve been researching some of the Buddhist types of teaching, I admit it is quite fascinating. I find it interesting that research shows two different schools of thought. One being that you can practice the teaching of Buddha without actually being a Buddhist.

It is the same with Christianity. A person can practice the religious philosophies of Christianity without being an authentic Christian.

A rather analytical kind of religious intelligence has for centuries been elevated by western culture, above spirituality. This form of religious intelligence is responsible for many tragedies that still continue around the world.

It leads me to the spiritual realization that there are many Christians who practice Christianity from a religious standpoint, but yet don’t know God.

At some level as a spirit-filled Christian it’s a little embarrassing to recognize that a key reason people follow a Buddhist or otherwise lifestyle is because of the “spiritual” elements of their metaphorical practices and yet . . .

Here we are, Christians, and many of us don’t take advantage of the deep and rich spiritual gifts God promises us. Much of the world follows non-religious, yet spiritual practices. Seems strange to me!

This leads me to another thought.

Eastern Philosophy vs. Western Religion

Believe it or not, there are MANY SIMILARITIES amongst Spirit-filled Christians and people who practice eastern metaphorical and spiritual practices. Which brings me to wonder, how many Buddhists have a misunderstanding of what the Ancient Biblical spiritual practices really are.

So fascinating to see the ‘box’ Christians have been put into, via our own religious and political choices historically made. We also have Christian Apologetics for all of the religious wrongs so much of the church has been responsible for.

At least one thing that is missing is the fact that, without question, much of the ministry of the early church through the apostles was to demolish the idea of “religious practice” in order that people would “spiritually” connect to their divine purpose, walk in their Spiritual gifts and connect through meditation and prayer, the Spirit of God.

Christians in the early church experienced moments of enlightenment. It was occurring daily in the form of spiritual mysteries revealed. In fact, it was not due to a political agenda that people chose Christ, but rather because his light was so bright that people were drawn to him and his miracles. Another point of view is that people were so drawn to the light of Christ that they risked and gave up everything to follow him. People have been searching true enlightenment since time began.

Consider that true enlightenment is being connected to God in a way where He is in us and we are in Him. It is void of concepts, words and doctrines. It is in fact the most authentic spiritual state of being, where we cease to exist so that God can exist fully in us and is evident in our actions. Below you will see where Paul spoke of wisdom and deep spiritual things.

I Corinthians 2: 6-16

(6) When I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world, or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten.

(7) No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God – his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for glory before the world began.

(8) But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.

(9) That is what the Scriptures means when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

(10) But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searched out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.

(11) No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

(12) And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

(13) When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.

(14) But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all seems foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

(15) Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others.

(16) For “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ Jesus.

We have seen that the choice to follow atheism is partly out of a reaction to the confines of the world-view of Christianity which is extremely skewed, as it pertains to religion. Non-Christians and Christians alike, in large part, don’t recognize the biggest secret of all. That is, to be a follower of Jesus is distinctly different than being a subscriber to Christianity as a religious philosophy. I profoundly believe that freedom comes through accessing the spiritual realm of life, as it relates to Jesus as the embodiment of wisdom, not religion.

I Corinthians 1:30

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy and he freed us from sin.

The way I look at it, we don’t have to wait to experience spirituality and wisdom. We are now free to come into the presence of God as was the intention for the Jews, separate from endless requirements. Consider, like many Jews, religious Christians are still not accessing God, and have an invisible barrier keeping them from experiencing God spiritually. The blinding barrier worldwide is the religion of Christianity.

The Bible spoke often of the choice to walk in the flesh or walk in the spirit. Clearly Jesus taught that following the path of the flesh led to destruction.

Consider hell as a place where we are void of our spirituality as it is connected to a Good God. Hell then becomes a concept human beings can stomach without looking through the lenses of Western religion and a tainted religious past. In my reality as a very spiritual follower of Jesus, hell is a place where the purification to holiness becomes a process that is never-ending and the holy and unholy do not exist together.

If our flesh or humanity is contrary to the holiness of God, because of it’s very limiting nature, as it pertains to accessing God, then it makes practical sense, from that perspective, that it would be necessary to work around our humanness by humbling our flesh (ignoring our cravings for purity’s sake) and submitting to the authority of the Spirit.

To delve deeper into this I must almost seemingly contradict myself for the sake of this teaching. Spirituality in fact is contrary to our human nature and practical at the same time. We must look at this practically, because where you may be right now is likely looking through the lenses of practicality. How profound that we must walk the path from humanity to practicality to spirituality and finally reach God through this process.

If you can’t see the value in a practical approach to spirituality you may never know what Jesus meant when he said, “Many people pleaded Lord! Lord! I did your will and performed miracles in your name so why won’t you let me into heaven? Then he said, “It is because you didn’t do the will of my Father. I never knew you.”

Matthew 7: 21
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

You could read the scripture above and you may have a bad taste for Christianity or you’re feeling uncomfortable because it could be confronting for you personally. Setting that to the side, I think the more important thing to see is, Jesus says, “I never knew you.” If God does not know us, it is because we did not allow him to know us. God gives us free will to walk in the light (know him spiritually) or remain in the darkness (live limited by our humanity).

John 3: 18-21

(18) There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s own Son.

(19) And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil (against God).

(20) All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.

(21) But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.

True spirituality is being righteous because God’s own Spirit longs for righteousness (not to be confused with self-righteousness), not because of the law. One motive comes from a religious moral motive and the other comes from our love for God. God in his infinite wisdom knows the motive our heart.

To complete this topic: We must know God. When we know God, we will listen and know the path to an abundant spiritual path. Religion is not the means to knowing God. However a brilliant and fulfilling spiritual life can be found through Jesus.

So, if you’re a spiritual person looking for a spiritual experience and don’t believe it exists in the Christian Church, please don’t give up on us. Things are changing in the world and many people are finding a spiritual solution to fill their spiritual needs in the Christian Church.

But, I would say, do your due diligence to ask around and find a Church that offers a profound spiritual experience, not a religious one. Spirituality is catching on, however slow and unenlightened we have been. God is love and he is showing up.

End Procrastination: God Is Waiting

By Jenene Stafford

Sorry Ladies if this blog is a little painful, but somebody has to do it and when I raised my hand and said, “I’m in I’ll do it God“, I didn’t say, “but, only if it’s easy“. Any worthwhile life purpose requires all of us to get out of our comfort zones.

I pray we’re all powerfully convicted into consistent positive action.

Here’s why this is tough. Because you and I both know that women are so tapped out, so it can seem like pouring salt into a wound to talk about this subject. But, transformation isn’t always comfortable.

Consider that you’re choosing to be a victim to busyness and distraction and you can un-choose being a victim. Basically, what you’re saying to God is “I don’t have time for you God.

The overwhelm that you feel, which causes us to procrastinate on developing our relationship with God, can only go away if YOU can be personally responsible for it. If you refuse to take responsibility for it, you are putting wheels in motion that position you to be at the beck and call of circumstance, thus the never-ending cycle of an unfulfilled life continues.

Here’s what it looks like, choosing circumstance over time with God.

It’s a yucky predicament because our hearts want to know God and perhaps our spirit does too, but our mind can win out very easily. This is why we must renew our minds and subject our minds to the Spirit of God, not our own spirit. Otherwise, “As a man thinketh so is he.”

Our mind will fail us if we don’t walk in the Spirit of God. You must call on the Spirit of God. This is really hard to do at first because we’re human and we’re not wired to call on God until we’re in a big mess. Then all of a sudden, God help us, we’re begging God to relieve us.

Sometimes, he does and sometimes I imagine he’s just saying to himself, “When’s this girl going to learn?”

You have access to OVERCOMING EVERYTHING if you would just give God the time of day. How can you expect to grow in powerful spiritual ways if you have little knowledge of God’s ways.

Do you want to cultivate great things for yourself, your family, your business, your community, your church, your world? Then get to know the Cultivator of Great Things.

Don’t think for a second that you don’t have accessible to you power over your circumstances and a promise of a divine purpose and an abundant fulfilling life.  I promise as time goes on, God will prove himself faithful if you will partner with him. He will empower your life if you will give him the best of you and not the leftovers.

My God doesn’t lie! I stand on his promises and we have the power to overcome every kind of enemy, even the ones that we create totally on our own. Oh God, if we would just turn to you and turn from our heart which grieves us and lies to us.  It tells us we’re unloveable, broken-beyond repair, worthless, disrespected, ugly, fat, selfish, unable to forgive, unable to heal, not special, not beautiful, not really a daughter of God. Liar Liar Liar!!!

The truth shall set you free.

I need you. I want you. I choose you GOD. Make me a better woman.

Does Your Character Match Your Calling

By Jenene Stafford

Don’t do what the world expects, do what God is calling you to do. I think most people are sort of clueless to the fact that they’re not taking how serious it is to make sure we are honoring God with our character. We all struggle with this at times. The beautiful thing is when you do what He asks it’s considered righteousness and a righteous woman will avail much.

When we don’t do what we absolutely know to do it is considered sin. If you’re still undisciplined in your walk with Christ and not making Him your first priority in life, this is incongruent with your calling. Sadly many women say they want a special ministry and to be used by God, but won’t actually do the “right” thing so God will prosper their calling.

Listen if you have a high calling on your life then you will need to live with high integrity with God and others. Galations 5:1 says, “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” Otherwise it’s just not going to happen. The Lord wants you to prove to Him you take your calling seriously and if you’re not in right living, you’re showing Him you’re not fully ready.

God is more interested in your character that leads to your calling than He is in your comfort. Let’s be willing to do the hard thing for Christ. Isn’t it all we can do considering all that He has done for us.

God’s Testing Is Necessary

By Jenene Stafford

All of my life I felt I didn’t belong here in this world. Now, as I become more mature as a Christian I understand that it is because I am not of this world. John 17: 14 says:  I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.

In the first 28 years of my life I would say  often to God, “God, you better have some incredible purpose for my life to make this crazy life worth something useful. Surely, I didn’t go through all this for nothing.”

Now as I am getting deeply rooted in Him it is a new level of spiritual transformation that gives me moments where I have butterflies in my stomach. Although, I am physically unsettled I have a peace and know that the Lord’s grace is sufficient for me to endure through this current testing of my obedience. These moments of obedience call me to be “far out” as my husband would say. The truth is I don’t like the attention my sometimes charismatic spirit draws. I have feared the gift of prophecy for so long because of this side affect. I despise the thought of being questioned as inauthentic in my love for Jesus, a false prophet or someone who needs attention. I keep asking God how can I do what you want without drawing attention to myself?

In one moment I am thanking God that He chose me for a special purpose and the next moment I am saying, “I can’t do this.” I am scared to death. Haven’t you had similar thoughts? Sometimes the testing seems never ending.

We are completely incapable of doing what He is calling us to do without His help. But, more importantly, we must depend on God’s Truth, His Word, which tells us “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Otherwise, we’ll just keep spinning our wheels and have a status-quo average Christian life. This is NOT what the Lord wants for us. He is so much greater than that. He has a great plan for our lives and we are his co-workers.

John 15:1-5 says:

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

I love how repetitive God is. He’s so like a Father, repeating himself to make sure we get the point. He tells us we’ll accomplish nothing if we don’t stick with Him.

The Word of God has been my saving grace at times I thought for sure I could not take another moment of abuse in my life. I have stood on the authority given to us that comes from the Word and its promises. We all need to get bolder in our faith and remember that God is the one that will supply everything you need to do what He has called you to do. We just need to become “Yes” women, at least when it comes to the Lord. When we KNOW the Lord asks us to do something, we need to stop saying, “Let me think about it, maybe later or let me see if I can squeeze you into my busy schedule.” Just know that when your answer is “I can’t”, He will say, that’s good, because I can.

The point is to become WILLING to do what He asks. God has a special and unique purpose for all of us. I wonder how many people never receive the spiritual fulfillment they want because of their unwillingness to do what God says to do, WITHOUT HESITATION.

I’ll be really honest, I don’t like surprises too much. Most of the surprises I’ve had in my life have been extremely painful. When God asks me to do uncomfortable things RIGHT NOW in this moment, I flinch. I’ve finally gotten to the point of saying “yes” but it takes me a few seconds or minutes to actually move into action.

Just yesterday I had this happen at church. The Lord told me to go up and pray with a certain prayer team member. I took 10 seconds to ask, “Do you want me to get prayer or do you want me to pray for her?” I didn’t get my answer. Not 10 seconds later, she was busy the entire prayer time praying for others. I wasn’t able to get to her because she was unavailable. You see I hesitated.

Then I thought, perhaps this had something to do with my daughter who just got out of the hospital, because she’s having complications after her childbirth. I was worried.

After church, being the human being that I still am, I got distracted visiting with someone else and I forgot to go and grab her. Not by accident, she walked up next to me and was on her way to go and get prayer and be anointed by the elders because she may have breast cancer. I told her what the Lord said earlier during service and her eyes got really big and she said, “I would like for you to pray for me right now.”

The Father is so good to give us so many chances. I was so blessed being in service to her and I could sense her fear over her situation. When we do what God tells us to do we feel empowered and He honors us for trusting Him to provide whatever is needed for the church body.

So many times we miss out on the blessing He wants us to get by saying no.

I was so grateful He didn’t spank me for hesitating and instead awarded me grace and a second opportunity. I don’t like the spankings at all. I end up feeling so disappointed in myself. Admittedly I grow from His refining process, however I have not gotten so accustomed that I look forward to it.

I have been sort of stubborn in my life, but I’m sure that’s just me, right? You’re not like that. I imagine God saying to me, “Here we go again. We can do this your way (the hard way) or the easy way. Which do you prefer?”

Some of us who have suffered being mistreated or abused have a tendency to have some left over challenges in our personality. Personally, since I believe the Lord can turn everything the enemy meant for evil into something good and the Word tells us this is true, now I see how my stubbornness, is also in its positive sense, determination and diligence. When the Lord reveals a vision to me I am absolutely relentless at seeing the vision come to pass.  So the more I learn about people, the more I realize if I see an “unattractive” characteristic, I look for how the Lord could use that current character flaw and turn it into something beautiful and useful. He has transformed my life in so many ways and He wants to keep transforming us into His image. This happens through the testing and refining process.

During these times of testing (transformation) there are moments where I have questioned my own sanity with some of these instructions from God. If you tell the truth, it is no different for any of you. I’m sure as Abraham was told by God to sacrifice his own son, he must have thought, “Really, do we have to go this far?” But, in the nick of time an angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham, now I know that you truly fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

The point was for Abraham to demonstrate that he trusted God completely and placed him above all else, even his own son. Though God of course already knew that Abraham had faith in Him, it was necessary for Abraham to prove it through action because our faith is made complete through action.

James 2:21-23

21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

I so want to be called God’s friend. I want him to talk to me like a friend would. He wants us to prove to him we love him so God tests our love by testing our obedience and he tests our work.

Paul writes: “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” (1 Corinthians 3:9-15).

We are also tested by division. Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “First of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you.” (1 Corinthians 11:18, 19). Jesus prayed for unity (John 17:20-23) but not for unity at any cost. He prayed for unity based on God’s word, “I have given them Your word” (John 17:14); “Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). This ‘parting of the ways’ purges and purifies the church. The unfaithful are removed, the faithful are pruned, and those who are approved are recognized.

Make no doubt about it, God is testing us. We should also test ourselves: “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

“The Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 13:3). God tests our obedience to know whether we love Him.

Father, help us be diligent to present ourselves approved by you and not by man.
